Keita Interview (2010): Childhood and Fashion

I: Did you also take part in fashion shows [as a child]?
K: Yes.
I: And so here...
K: I'm right here.
I: on the right. And you're wearing sunglasses! You look very cool. _____ these children's clothing.
K: Yes. I was in this model club from when i was... five years old. And I'd do these fashion shows.
I: So then you'd see your mother's photos-
K: Yeah
I: and then do you remember what you felt?
K: I don't, actually. At this time I was in elementary school, and this kind of look was normal.
I: Really? The sunglasses, too?
K:_______. But you know, my brother was in the modeling club, and there were so many fashionable people. But when I went to school, people had different values. That was my sense.
I: At home you all were wearing this kind of fashionable clothing, so you were accustomed to that being 'normal.'
K: Yeah. I always thought my clothes were normal, but in grade six I realized I was wrong. Upon first seeing me, people would look at me strangely. In the first year of middle school, I bought my own clothes.
I: Oh. And all that time, in elementary and middle school, did you think you wanted to sing?
K: Yes. I was always listening to music and singing.

Keita: Probably not, right~
Ryuichi: Yeah. It's not like I confront you directly, but you'd know when rumors are being spread.
Ryohei: Would you really? (laughs)

Ryuichi: We have no secrets!
Keita: Yeah, none!!
----- This is a question from our readers. Surprisingly, quite a few have come in. ⑦ what would be w-inds.' biggest fight?
Keita: We haven't really fought for around eight years, right? (laughs)
Ryuichi: That sounds right. We don't fight nowadays~ (laughs)
----- Did you do so in your younger days, when you debuted?
Keita: Yeah. Things like who was at the top of the pyramid. (laughs)
All: (laughs)
Ryuichi: We really fought when it came to small [insignificant] things. But when two of of us fought, one person would go around being the peacemaker, right?
----- Well, if you haven't had a huge fight yet, might that happen tonight?
Keita: Yeah. I'll probably go on a rant about something and win [the fight] against myself~ (laughs)
All: Hahaha
Keita: Actually... Well, speaking of the biggest fight up to now... wouldn't it be that time I grabbed Ryuichi-kun by the collar of his shirt? (laughs)

Keita: Yes, definitely! Go ahead!


----- After the last interview's questionnaire, we gathered things people would like to ask the members [of w-inds.], but there's a mix of [different] questions. And so, we'll start right away. ① What was your favourite jacket cover?


Ryuichi: This most recent best album! We've got a good balance and since we shot it I'd thought we took some good pictures.


Keita: Same here, I with the jacket pictures, i like our recent style. In the past, there were a lot of things that really determined things [for us] and it was terrible (lol).


----- Things like your facial expression? Perhaps like your poses?


Keita: Yes.


Ryohei: For me, it's been our recent Let;s Get it On/Be As One.


----- This is a question from our readers. ② In your 10 years, who changed the most?


Ryuichi: That'd be Keita!


Keita: Yeah. Wasn't it me?


Ryohei: You['ve become] someone else.


Ryuichi: Overall, you changed. Your beliefs, your personality, your love for me... you've quickly changed, haven't you.

----- Is there a song of yours whose lyrics you've come to understand more now, in comparison to the past?

Ryuichi: There are so many! First off is Long Road.

Keita: Isn't that true.

Ryuichi: At that time, we didn't realize that there wasn't anything that we'd really lost... And now, I get the feeling that, at the time, there really wasn't anything to lose. [quoting "Long Road": nakusu mono sae nani mo nai kara...]


----- When you released it, was there a certain song that surprised you with [the fan's] reactions?
at the same time:

Keita: Kirei da!

Ryuichi: In the Stars. Oh.. Kirei da was kinda...

Keita: Ahaha. It seems I lost. You look like... when two cards are given out at the same time, and yours is better. [literal: yours was stronger]

Ryuichi: I was strong~. Guess there's no helping it! lol

Keita: Sorry, sorry. lol

Ryuichi: With the image that we'd been waiting for, the response when we releaesd Kirei da was a bit different [than expected].

----- Up until now w-inds. best of albums have been released, but this time two versions were simultaneously released, and this organization was a very entertaining endeavor.

Keita: There have been a lot of dance numbers with this recent w-inds., but there are also songs with pretty melodies.I think it was a good thing that we released such two-coloured forms. We'e put in all our singles up to now and with the coupling songs and album songs, everyone can choose. But they might have unexpected decided already [note: on which one to buy...?]

----- Were there any songs that you absolutely wanted to add, without a second thought?

[Part One] w-inds. appearing for five consecutive weeks! Talking all night long about their 10th anniversary, the long interview!

----- First off, I wonder if we can hear about the tenth anniversary live at Budoukan. Budoukan is a place where w-inds. has done numerous lives, so the venue must feel somewhat like home to them. What's it like if you look back upon the short time that has passed since that concert?

Keita: We were nervous, weren't we?

Ryohei: Super nervous! It was crazy! Before we came out in the opening, thinking of two tracks with my solo, the tension peaked! There was some wickedly tense [feeling] before my solos.

Ryuichi: You serious?

Koisuru w-inds.

Keita: [With a boy,] I'd want him to [experience] performances and their atmosphere. And after all, everyone's dancing and singing is different, and I'd want to support that of my children.
Interviewer 1: You want to support that tension.


Ryohei: Once in a while, I guess it's okay.
